8 Fashion Mistakes That Are Ageing You! | Fashion 2021
As we get older there are a few tweaks we can make to our outfit choices to help us put our best foot forward. Of course there is a very fine line between trying to look too young and just looking the best version of your age. On the eve of turning 54 I decided to share a few of the fashion “rules” I try to follow to help me look modern without looking like I’m trying to be something I’m not – do you know what I mean?
As always thanks for watching and I’d love to hear if any of these tips resonate with you or if you have any of your own I’d love you to share them in the comments below.

100% on the accessories! I’ll wear a basic (all black or jeans & a tee) outfit & spice things up with my shoes & accessories! I don’t invest in clothing because of fast changing styles but I do splurge on shoes and handbags.
You sound very similar to me 🙂
Great tips! Thanks for this video. I’ve been struggling with this for a few years. I was working at a Corporate office and so while I had to conform to suits, I still tried to let my style show. However it’s in private times I struggle. I love your videos, they help so much.
Casual wear is often the hardest to crack – it can be tricky to strike a good balance between comfort and style. Maybe try to look on Pinterest and save some looks you like and try to recreate them from clothes you already own? Just a thought 🙂
I’ve outgrown listening to people tell me how to dress, look and feel, even with many professionals who I see often on YouTube over 50, no bikini, no low blouses because your neck shows your age. I look at them and think “maybe you but your body isn’t mine”. I feel comfortable in my body and wear whatever I like from leggings with cute ankle boots to a v-neck with a nice necklace. I even wear halters because I have a nice back and my husband loves me in them. He always smile when I come out my dressing room. Women, especially, got to take back their power and stop letting people age us, pushing us in the back, making us question ourselves. You know if something looks good and feels comfy on you and long as you know, wear it.
Fabulous advice Terri – thanks so much for sharing. By the way I love halter tops too 🙂
Love your perspective!
Being 60 this year, I’ve been aware of my adapting my style as I go for quite a few years now. When I was 50 it was a crisis point as I had no idea how to transition… I’m much happier in my own skin now and have a little rack of floral dresses just ready for this summer! My arms are what I cover up though as they are not lean and now I’ve lost weight they are crepey.. so I get clever at cardigans and little cover ups.
Thanks for sharing!
Been loving your content more than ever. 😀
Aww thank you that’s very kind and makes me feel super happy 🙂
I love the way you began this video and then introduced the mindset older gals need to consider when dressing. Very tactfully accomplished!!
Thank you so much Judith – it’s always a tricky subject and I never want to make anyone feel bad so thank you 🙂
Whenever I do put on a bit of weight stick to buying jewellery shoes and accessories.
When I reach my goal weight start shopping for clothes again.
Have built a fabulous wardrobe with accessories.
Enjoy as always the fresh content of your videos.
Ahhh yes that logic sounds very familiar – I can definitely relate. Thanks for sharing 🙂
I keep clothes I like in different sizes and whenever my size changes I buy a few new trendy pieces at least even if I plan on losing weight. You can never guarantee you will be the same size forever. All sorts of things happen. You can still take care of your appearance and be glamorous even if you are not as slim as you would like.
I think the best accessory is to be in great shape and weight no matter your age and to wear clothes that fit well and make us feel confident.
That makes a lot of sense to me Raquel – thanks for sharing 🙂
I love that you disagree with others without attacking/insulting anyone. So classy and elegant 😍😍 Listening to you makes me happy. xx
Thank you so much Nicola!!
Oh my God you looks as you are in the early 40s,wow 🌹
Oh thank you!
Thanks this is good to hear. I’m 64 I still love fashion and I agree with everything 🦋🌺
That’s kind thank you Denise 🙂
love your point! I turn 48, We need sometimes that comfort lecture to enjoy this coming this next decade and
enjoy. Thanks Leone for your words, and of course, we are learning with the pandemia issue, and we can work for ourselves, and share it to the family new “shop my closet” episodes, to share or even lawn something cool from the relatives and have fun and joy together. Greetings from Tijuana, Mexico. And my best wishes to your people
Thank you and to you too 🙂
I see a lot of older ladies where I live that match things. Like for example their sneakers, bag and coat have to be the same shade of pink, red or yellow. It looks dated, honestly.
Yes I’m not personally a fan of that look 😉
There are no rules when it comes to fashion anymore. I agree with you, wear what makes you happy and brings you joy. Fashion is a form of expression, have fun, there are not rules.
I’ve always enjoyed breaking rules anyway LOL 🙂
Love the way you say things, really appreciate your attitude and insight about ageing and “rules”
I appreciate that! Thanks Julie 🙂
Harsh makeup, and being too thin. I think those too things can really age a woman. There are ways to modify most styles to fit any age 🙂
I agree 🙂
@The Style Insider I’m naturally thin, and have a sort of ‘gothic’ overtone to my style- I’ve had to soften up my makeup in the past 5 + years, and eat more haha !
Love when women give others permission to wear what ever you want, age doesn’t matter. Just be comfortable. Get tired of hearing that isn’t age appropriate. I plan on never being age appropriate. Ne Er was. No reason to start now.
I don’t ever plan to be “age appropriate” either LOL 🙂
I agree with all of these! Great job.
Thanks for watching Heidie 🙂
Japanese fashion are all very loose fittings.. and they are tops with fashion.
That said, you do you and I do me. I still walk around in pigtails. Feeling good in our skin is everything. No to living according to anybody else’s rules. Yay us!
